Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on August 29, 2022 from approximately 4:17 pm to 4:49 pm. There were 24 children in attendance and a total of 9 staff present. 5 staff records and 5 children?s records were reviewed. All areas of the center were observed including classrooms, kitchen, hallways, and bathrooms. The children were observed listening to music, playing games, and eating snack, while the licensing inspector was on the premises.

Emergency drills and inspections were in compliance. The most recent Health Inspection was on 01/19/22. The most recent Fire Inspection was on 01/21/22. The most recent fire drill was on 08/05/22. Shelter in Place Drills were conducted twice with the most recent on 06/17/22. The First Aid Kit had all components. The license, current inspection, and evacuation plan were posted and emergency numbers were posted by each phone.

Violations were cited as a result of this inspection.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-40-M
Description: Based on observation and interview, the center failed to maintain a current written list of all children?s allergies, sensitivities, and dietary restrictions. Evidence: There were no allergy lists in any of the areas where the children were present. When asked, the Director stated that she was working on creating the list but hasn?t finished it yet.

Plan of Correction: The center will ensure all groups have allergy lists for their children.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-70
Description: Based on interview, the center failed to ensure that the name, address, and telephone number of a person to be notified in an emergency was kept for each staff person at the center. Evidence: When asked the Director stated that she hadn?t had the staff complete the emergency contact forms with that information yet.

Plan of Correction: The center will ensure that all staff have their staff information sheet at all times.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center failed to ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: The kitchen area does not have a door. There were several bottled cleaning agents in the cabinet under the sink in the kitchen. The cabinet doors did not have a lock.

Plan of Correction: The center will purchase locks to lock up all unsafe materials.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-540-E
Description: Based on observation and interview, the center failed to have one working, battery-operated radio in each building used by children. Evidence: When asked to see the battery-operated radio the Director could not locate one and stated that they did not have one.

Plan of Correction: The center will purchase a new radio with additional batteries.
