Provided consultation on standard:
1) 40L: the center shall inform all staff who work with children of children?s allergies, sensitivities, and dietary preferences
2) 230: Independent contractors - individuals from independent contractors shall not be counted in the staff-to-children ratios unless they meet the qualifications for the applicable position. (To meet qualifications, all required documentation for staff is required.) Individuals from independent contractors who do not meet staff qualifications shall, when in the presence of children, be within sight and sound supervision of a staff member.
3) 350L: Once at least half of the children in the resting room or area are awake, the staff-to-children ratio shall meet the ratios as required in 350B
4) 500: hand washing and toileting procedures - staff and children?s hands shall be washed after toileting/diapering (before other cleaning tasks to ensure that soiled hands do not touch other surfaces.) The foot operated disposal system should be used in such a way that a staff member?s hand does not touch the surface of the disposal system.
5) 560: children three years of age or younger may not be offered foods that are considered to be choking hazards

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 2:30 ? 4:00 pm with the director. There were 19 children, ranging from six months to four years of age, present with five staff supervising. Children were observed napping, eating snack, which is brought from home, having a diaper change and playing with age-appropriate toys. Three staff records, two child records, two medications, the emergency drill log, daily attendance, written list of food allergies, sensitivities and dietary preferences, and fire and health inspections were reviewed. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-80-A Description: Based on review of the written attendance record, and an interview with staff, it was determined that the facility did not ensure all children were included on the written attendance record. Evidence: in the toddler/2's classroom, nine children were observed, however 11 children were listed on the attendance sheet. Plan of Correction: Will ensure all children in the classroom are included on the attendance sheet.
