Comments:
The Licensing Inspector initiated and completed a monitoring inspection on 08/29/2022. The inspector was on site from 2:35pm until 3:45pm.

There were nine children under the care of three staff. The ages of the children ranged from four to eight years old. The children were observed during homework and snack time. Three children?s record and two staff records were reviewed.


Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-245-J
Description: Based on interview and observation, the center failed to ensure any child with emergency medications shall always be in the care of a staff member who is MAT certified.

Evidence: Child #3 has emergency medication on site. Child #3 was at the center on 08/29/2022. There was no staff member present with MAT certification on 08/29/2022.

Plan of Correction: Staff will be signed up to complete MAT training.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-I
Description: Based on review of medication, the center failed to obtain written permission from a parent or guardian to administer medication.

Evidence:

Child #3 had no written authorization to administer prescription medication observed at the center from parent or guardian

Plan of Correction: Parent will sign authorization for medication.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-L
Description: Based on review of medication, the center failed to keep all medication in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: Observed medication for child in the First Aid kit in a Ziploc bag. There was no lock on the first aid kit. This poses a hazard to children.

Plan of Correction: Medication will be taken out of the first kit and locked away.
