Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on September 8, 2022. The inspector arrived at 9:10 AM and departed at approximately 11am. There were 42 children present and 8 staff members. A sample size of 10 records were reviewed which included 5 children?s records and 5 staff records. The Inspector observed staff and children?s interactions throughout the inspection. Children were observed during group activity, breakfast, handwashing, and story time. First aid kits and emergency preparedness documents were observed. The transportation van was observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law and violation was documented. The violation is listed on the violation notice issued to the center and were reviewed with the Director at the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation and interview it was determined that the center did not ensure that areas and equipment of the center be maintained safe condition.
Evidence:
1. In the 3-5 year old classroom, there are three windows with venetian blinds with the string cord in reach of the children which poses as a potential choking hazard to children.
2. Staff #1 and Staff #2 confirmed the venetian blind cords are in reach of children.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #1 and Staff #2 immediately tied the cords during the time of the inspection so they are no longer in reach or accessible to children.
