Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance was provided and the licensing standards regarding playground resilient surfacing, handwashing, and safety locks were discussed and reviewed.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on September 8, 2022. The inspector arrived at 11 AM and departed at approximately 1pm. There were 60 children present and 16 staff members. A sample size of 11 records were reviewed which included 6 children?s records and 5 staff records. The Inspector observed staff and children?s interactions throughout the inspection. Children were observed during group activity, story time, handwashing, lunch, and naptime. First aid kits and emergency preparedness documents were observed. The transportation van was observed. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliances with applicable standards or law and violations were documented. The violations are listed on the violation notice issued to the center and were reviewed with the Director and Assistant Director at the exit interview.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation and interview it was determined that the center did not ensure that areas and equipment of the center be maintained safe condition.
Evidence:
1. In entrance of the infant room has loose baseboard lining along the foot of the wall which is a tripping and injury hazard for children in care.
2. In the waddler classroom, there is a plastic toy bin that is broken which poses as a pinching hazard to children.
3. There is peeling paint in the 3 year old classroom in which chipped paint is on the floor near the children?s cots and designated sleeping area.
4. Staff #1 confirmed the physical plant issues of the center needs repair. Staff #1 confirmed the plastic bin was broken.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: Staff #1 immediately threw away the broken plastic bin. Staff #1 will put in a work order for the 3 year old room to be repainted and to have the baseboard lining repaired.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation and interview, it was determined that the center did not ensure that hazardous substances such as cleaning materials be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
Evidence:
1. In the waddler classroom, there were two disinfectant cleaners with the warning label, ?Harmful to Humans? in a cubby that are in reach of children in care.
2. Staff #1 confirmed there were two disinfectant cleaners unlocked in reach of children.

Plan of Correction: The center responded with the following: During the time of the inspection, the cleaning materials were placed in a locked cabinet.
