Discussed with center Director physical plant and equipment.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 11:00am-1:30pm. There were 45 children (infants-5yrs.) directly supervised by 10 staff. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 5 children?s records, medications, evacuation drills, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed participating in group play, practicing letters, reading books, napping and eating lunch. Lunch today consisted of chicken with rice, peas, carrots and watermelon with milk. Diapering and hand-washing procedures were also observed. There was an adequate supply of materials for the children. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A
Description: Based on observation, areas of the center, were not maintained in a safe and operable condition.

Evidence:
1.In the PreK classroom, a small area of peeling paint, approximately 2 inches long, was observed above the cubbies and a larger area of peeling paint, approximately 5 inches long, was observed next to the vent by the block area.
2.In the Two's classroom a small area of peeling paint, approximately 2 inches long, was observed on the ledge of the window sill and two screws were observed protruding from the wall by the storage closet door.

Plan of Correction: I put in work order to have all painting and repairs completed.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, the center did not ensure cleaning materials were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence:
In the PreK classroom a spray bottle of a multipurpose cleaner was observed unlocked in an upper cabinet above the classroom's sink.

Plan of Correction: We retrained the teachers on our safety protocols for hazardous materials, both the lead and assistant teacher.
