An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today between the hours of 2:40pm-4:00pm. There were a total of 36 children with four staff members present. Children were observed during snack time, handwashing, engaged in group activities and outdoor play time. A selection of staff and children records, and other documents were reviewed. The physical space, emergency supplies, evacuation drills, attendance records, and the Emergency Preparedness Plan were reviewed. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the violation notice. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-A Description: Based on observation, children's hands were not washed with soap and running water or disposable wipes after eating meals and snacks.
1. All of the children's(36 children) hands were not washed with soap and running water or disposable wipes after eating snack. After eating snack, the children transitioned to toy play, coloring, and playing on computers without washing their hands with soap and running water.
2. The staff members offered hand sanitizer to the children after the children finished eating snack instead of taking them to the restroom to wash their hands.

Plan of Correction: Moving forward, staff will take the children to the restroom after snack so that they can wash their hands with soap and running water.
