The Licensing Inspector conducted an investigation in response to a self-report incident of a staff member aggressively handling a child on 12/16/2022. Interviews were conducted with administration and the classroom video from12/16/2022 was reviewed. The information gathered during this investigation supports the allegations; violations were discussed with the center director. Standard #: 8VAC20-780-410-1 Description: Based on observation of the center video and administrative interview, a staff member engaged in a forbidden action by roughly handling children in care.
Evidence:
1. On 12/16/2022 administration self reported an incident that occurred around 5:00 pm. It was reported that an administrator heard a 17 month old child crying, she went to the classroom and consoled the child. Later in the evening the administrator reviewed the classroom video.
The video revealed that staff #1 handled child #1 aggressively. She picked up the child under her arm and placed her on her bottom hard and proceeded to try to put a shoe on her foot.
2. The Inspector reviewed the classroom video which showed on 12/16/2022 at 5:54 pm staff #1 was sitting on the floor, she picked up child#1 under the arms and aggressively placed the child on a bean bag chair and proceeded to put a shoe on the child.Plan of Correction: After review of the classroom video, the staff member was immediately terminated.
