Provided information on following up on Background checks and documenting the follow up in each employees file.
On July 7, 2016 an unannounced renewal inspector was conducted between 10am and 12:15pm. During the date of inspection (7/1/16), 61 children were observed in direct care of 7 staff members. Children were observed rock climbing, creating paper tissue flowers, playing basketball, washing hands and getting ready for lunch. Pool and lifeguard certifications inspected as well as physical plant, background checks, staff qualifications, children's files and ratios all of which were found to be in compliance on the date of the visit. An exit interview was completed with the camp director. If you have any questions regarding this inspection, please contact Leah Pagala at (703)537-6757.
Standard #: 22VAC15-51-60-D Description: Based on record review, a staff member did not have a central registry background check or criminal history background checks submitted within 7 days of their date of hire (DOH). Evidence: Staff A (doh 6/10/15) did not have a central registry background check sent out within 7 days of their date of hire. There is no returned central registry background check in the staff member's file. Upon interview of the director, it was indicated Staff A's background check was submitted on 6/1/2016. Plan of Correction: Next year to send background checks out as soon as they are hired. Background checks have come back on the following staff.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-430-K Description: Based on observation, no provisions were made for an individual place for each child's personal belongings. Evidence: In the gymnasium, all the children's belongings were in one pile on top of a folding table some laying on top of others. Plan of Correction: Will purchase a storage unit or cubby system (really unsure how to fix this issue but will research.)
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-550-D Description: Based on record review, the center did not implement a monthly practice evacuation drill. Evidence: Upon review of evacuation logs and in interview with camp director, no emergency evacuation drill was documented for the month of June. Plan of Correction: Will implement two fire drills this month and will be complete by July 29th.

An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K.
