Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today 05/07/2024. There were 36 children directly supervised by 7 staff. The physical plant, 5 staff records, 5 children?s records, 5 medications, evacuation drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed napping, playing outside, and transitioning inside and outside. There was an assortment of age appropriate materials for the children in care. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Violations:
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B
Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were stored in an unlocked area that was not inaccessible to children.

Evidence: The shed located on the outdoor playground was unlocked and stored the following hazardous substances accessible to children:
1) Garden-Tone Herb and Vegetable Food
2) Miracle-Gro Plant Food

Plan of Correction: The center locked the shed and will make sure the shed is locked.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-290-A-3
Description: Based on observation, the facility did not cover all unused electrical outlets accessible to children under five years of age with child-resistant protective covers.

Evidence:
In the classroom for four-year old children, there was an exposed lateral strip containing unused electrical outlets without child-resistant protective covers.

Plan of Correction: The facility removed the electrical strip out of the classroom.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-E
Description: Based on review of medications and records, the facility did not follow its procedures for preventing the use of outdated medication.

Evidence:
Child #4 was given Zyrtec medication on February 13, 2024 after the medication was expired as of 02/2024.

Plan of Correction: The facility contacted the parent to bring a new bottle of medication for their child.
