Potable Water Lead Testing Requirements
The VDOE recently distributed memos to licensed child day programs, certified preschools and religiously exempt child day centers, sharing the requirement to develop and implement a plan to test potable water pursuant to ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia. The VDOE will begin determining compliance with this statute effective January 1, 2025. The memos can be found on the VDOE child care website: www.childcare.virginia.gov.
New: MAT Seizure Rescue Nasal Spray Online Course
The Medication Administration Training (MAT) Program recently announced the new MAT Seizure Rescue Nasal Spray (SRNS) online course. The training is available for free on the MAT Online Learning Center and will enable MAT-Certified providers to administer this emergency medication quickly and correctly in the event of an emergency seizure situation.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted 5/15/2024 from 4:05pm through 4:35pm. There were 15 children directly supervised by 2 staff. The physical plant, programming, menus, 2 staff records, 5 children?s records, 4 medications, emergency drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. Children were observed playing group games in the gym. Positive interactions between children and staff were observed during this inspection. There was an abundant supply of age appropriate materials for the children and the center was clean and organized. Both staff present at the time of inspection were current in CPR/First Aid and Medication Administration Training. One staff present was current in Daily Health Observation Training.
