Potable Water Lead Testing Requirements
The VDOE recently distributed memos to licensed child day programs, certified preschools and religiously exempt child day centers, sharing the requirement to develop and implement a plan to test potable water pursuant to ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia. The VDOE will begin determining compliance with this statute effective January 1, 2025. The memos can be found on the VDOE child care website: www.childcare.virginia.gov.
New: MAT Seizure Rescue Nasal Spray Online Course
The Medication Administration Training (MAT) Program recently announced the new MAT Seizure Rescue Nasal Spray (SRNS) online course. The training is available for free on the MAT Online Learning Center and will enable MAT-Certified providers to administer this emergency medication quickly and correctly in the event of an emergency seizure situation.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on site beginning 5/1/2024 from 10:00am-11:15am. File review concluded on 5/7/2024. There were 117 children directly supervised by 16 staff and all classrooms were in ratio. The physical plant, outdoor playground area, programming, menus, 5 staff records, 10 children?s records, emergency drills, injury reports, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. There were reportedly no medications on site. Children were observed napping throughout the inspection. There was an abundant supply of age appropriate materials for the children and the center was clean and organized. There was an adequate number of CPR/First Aid, Daily Health Observation, and MAT trained staff on site at the time of inspection. Areas of non-compliance are identified in the Violation Notice.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-G Description: REPEAT VIOLATION
Based on observation, the center did not ensure when food is brought from home it is dated and labeled in a way that identifies the owner.
Evidence: In the Infant room, there were two bottles in the refrigerator that were not dated and one bottle with no name or date. In addition, there was two bags of animal crackers and a puree container on the counter that had no name or date.Plan of Correction: Not available online. Contact Inspector for more information.
