Technical Assistance:

Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Standard #:	8VAC20-780-80-B
Description:	Any suspected incident of child abuse shall be reported in accordance with ? 63.2-1509 of the Code of Virginia. The incident on June 7, 2024, regarding the neglect of a toddler child by the center was not reported to Child Protective Services until August 15, 2024.
Plan of Correction:	All teachers were required to retrain on Playground Safety that was due on June 27, 2024. The video was titled, Leave no child unattended! Use Active Supervision to Keep Children Safe by Lynelle Denton. CPS was informed of the incident and came by the center to ensure that all policies were being implemented. Management went on the playground daily when children were reentering the center to ensure that the name to face attendance was implemented correctly. All staff were reminded of the playground safety policy. Management checked all classes every 30 minutes and performed a additional name to face inspection.
Standard #:	8VAC20-780-340-A
Description:	When staff are supervising children, they shall always ensure their care, protection, and guidance. Evidence: 1. On June 17, 2024, Child #1 (age 18 months) was left on the toddler playground unsupervised for approximately 30 minutes. 2. Child #1 was found lying in the shaded part of the playground alone crying and soiled without staff supervision. 3. Staff #3, toddler teacher, confirmed that the name to face attendance was not completed to ensure that all children were back in the classroom from the playground and stated ?Leaving her outside was my fault. I didn?t see her.? 4. Staff #4, assistant teacher, assumed that Staff #3 had Child #1 in care. Staff #4 confirmed that the name to face attendance count was not conducted when back in the classroom from the playground. Staff #4 confirmed that the child was left on the playground unattended without staff supervision. 5. Child #1?s mother stated that she was called by the Director to the school as her child was left alone on the playground. After meeting with the center, she was informed that her child was left on the playground for approximately 30 minutes. The mother took her child to the hospital to check her vitals. 6. Child #1 was left on the playground on a very hot day and did not have access to water. The temperature for June 7, 2024, at approximately 10:10am was approximately 84 degrees. 7. Child #1 was left on the playground that has climbing equipment and apparatuses to slide off. Such equipment requires adult supervision.

Description:	Children under 10 years of age always shall be within actual sight and sound supervision of staff. Child #1 (18 months) was left on the playground without staff supervision for approximately 30 minutes. All staff interviewed confirmed it was a very hot summer day and the child was found alone and unsupervised, soiled and crying on the playground.
