Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. Comments:
An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was initiated and completed on 10/3024, as a part of the conditional licensure period. The on-site inspection began at 9:30 am and ended at 1:20 pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 25 children present and 12 staff. The inspector reviewed nine children?s records and four staff records on-site. This inspection included: document review, tour of the facility, interviews, and observations.

Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Please complete the plan of correction (POC) and date to be corrected sections for each violation cited on the violation notice. Specify how the violation will be or has been corrected. Submit your POC within five (5) business days from today, which will be the close of business on 11/15/24. A POC submitted after this date will not appear on the public website.

Description: During the stated hours of operation, there always shall be on the premises when one or more children are present one staff member who meets the qualifications of a program leader or director and an immediately available staff member, volunteer or other employee who is at least 16 years of age.
Video footage on 10/30/24 showed that there was one staff member with one child from 6:02 am ? 6:20 am.

Description: Prescription and nonprescription medication shall be given to a child, only with written authorization from the parent.

There were no written authorizations on file from the parents.

Description: The center?s procedures for administering medication shall include duration of the parent?s authorization for medication, provided that it shall expire or be renewed after 10 workdays. Long-term prescription drug use and over-the-counter medication may be allowed with written authorization form the child?s physician and parent.
Six non-prescription medications were in the medication box. These medications have been at the center for one to six months with no written authorization available or renewed. There was no written authorization from Child 8?s physician and parent for the long-term prescription medication was in the medication box.
