Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was initiated and completed on 12/17/2024, as a part of the licensure period, The on-site inspection began at 9:30 am and ended at 11:45 am. There were two inspectors on-site today. The inspectors reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. There were 47 children present and 10 staff. The inspectors reviewed 5 children?s records and 3 staff records on-site.
This inspection included: document review, tour of the facility, interviews, and observations.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A Description: The center shall ensure that areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside are maintained in clean, safe and operable condition.
1. There were sharpie markers, scissors and rubber bands in drawers that were accessible to children in care.
2. On the playground the area next to the drain by the fence poses a tripping hazard.Plan of Correction: We asked staff to remove during the inspection. And we will put dirt on the floor ( around drain).
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B Description: Hazardous substances such as cleaning materials shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Cleaning and sanitizing sprays were located on a shelf inside the bathroom near the door that children use. Plan of Correction: We asked staff to move during the inspection.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-A Description: Children's hands shall be washed with soap and water before and after eating meals or snacks.
2 Children were observed eating snack without first washing their hands.Plan of Correction: We plan on having a snack table to make sure the hands are washed and monitor the children when they are eating.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-500-B Description: A nonabsorbent surface for diapering or changing shall be used. For children younger than three years, this shall be a changing table or countertop designated for changing.
A classroom for children less than 3 years of age did not have a nonabsorbent surface for diapering.Plan of Correction: We will provide the changing surface.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-550-P Description: Then center shall maintain a written record of children's serious and minor injuries. The records were found to be missing requires information.
2 of 10 records were missing a description of Future action to prevent reoccurrence.
6 of 10 records were missing time and method of parent notification.Plan of Correction: We will remind the staff that everything needs to be filled out.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-560-J Description: Tables and high chair trays shall be sanitized before and after each use for feeding.
2 Children sat to eat snack at separate tables and tables were not sanitized before and after use.Plan of Correction: We plan on having snack table to make sure they wash their hands and monitor children when they are eating.
