Technical Assistance:
Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on 01/28/2025 as a part of the licensure period. The on-site inspection began at 12:45pm and ended at 2:30pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. This inspection included: document review, tour of the facility, interviews, observations and measurements. There were 26 children present and 5 staff. The inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 4 staff record. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Description: Documentation of 2 or more references checked prior to employment are required for each staff person to include: Dates of contact , Names of persons contacted,The firms contacted,
Results and Signature of person making call.


The records for Staff A, B, C and D did not include a signature of the person making the call to check each staff reference.

Plan of Correction: The signature of the persons checking references for employment will be added to the reference checklist to be included in the staff records.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-450-A
Description: Cribs, cots, mats and beds used by children other than infants during the designated rest period or during evening and overnight care shall have linens consisting of a top cover and a bottom cover or a one-piece covering which is open on three edges.

A child was observed taking a nap on a mat that did not have a top or bottom cover.

Plan of Correction: The center will keep extra top and bottom covers available in the event a child falls asleep.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-510-G
Description: Medication shall be labeled with the child's name, the name of the medication, the dosage amount, and the time or times to be given.

The center had an emergency medication that was not labeled with the child's name, dosage or times to be given.

Plan of Correction: The director will ensure all medication is labeled correctly and comes in with the proper information that matches the prescriptions.
