LEAD TESTING: Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall re-mediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. An unannounced monitoring inspection was completed on 02/25/2025 as a part of the licensure period. The on-site inspection began at 1:00pm and ended at 3:00pm. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above. This inspection included: document review, tour of the facility, interviews, observations and measurements. The inspector reviewed 5 children?s records and 2 staff records. Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-780-270-A Description: Areas and equipment of the center, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe and operable condition.
On the toddler playground 4 long awning straps hung from hooks on the brick wall, each had a metal hook on the end, posing a strangulation hazard.Plan of Correction: The awning straps are usually not dangling. The owner will contact maintenance to secure the straps and metal hooks so that they are not in reach of children.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-280-B Description: Hazardous substances such as cleaning materials shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.
In the infant room there was a bottle if disinfectant wipes on the counter top.Plan of Correction: The owner will remind all staff to keep chemicals in a locked place after use.
Standard #: 8VAC20-780-330-B Description: Where playground equipment is provided, resilient surfacing shall comply with minimum safety standards when tested in accordance with the procedures described in the American Society for Testing and Materials standard F1292-99.
There were 2 plastic slides on the toddler playground that did not have the required surfacing at least 6' on all side of the equipment. One side of each of the slides had approximately a 3' fall zone.Plan of Correction: The owner will move the slides to ensure that each have the required surfacing on all sides.
