This unannounced renewal inspection was conducted from 10:30 am until 12:50 pm. At the time of the inspection 36 children were present with seven staff members. The sample size consisted of a review of two staff records, board officer's background checks and five children's records. There was no medication at the center at the time of the inspection. Children and staff were observed during tennis lessons, swimming lessons, art activities, and bathroom break. Staff were observed during transitions and behavioral guidance. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-C Description: Based on an inspection of the first aid kit in the six to eight age group and interview with staff, the center failed to ensure the first aid kit included a thermometer. Evidence: 1. The first aid kit did not include a thermometer. 2. The director stated she believed they had a thermometer in the Kids Place office but was not sure. Plan of Correction: A thermometer was ordered before the end of the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-540-E Description: Based on interview, the center failed to provide a battery-operated radio in each building used by children and any camp location without a building. Evidence: The director stated they do not have battery-operated radios available for staff at each location. Plan of Correction: The director will purchase a battery-operated radio for each location used by children.
