Comments:
This inspection was conducted by licensing staff using an alternate remote protocol, necessary due to a state of emergency health pandemic declared by the Governor of Virginia.

An unannounced code compliance inspection was initiated on 3/16/21 and concluded on 3/17/21. The person in-charge was contacted by telephone to initiate the inspection. There were 12 children present and 2 staff. The inspector emailed the provider a list of items required to complete the inspection. The Inspector reviewed 2 staff records submitted by the facility to ensure documentation was complete.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance(s) with applicable standards or law and violations were documented on the violation notice issued to the facility.
The Licensing Inspector has reviewed with the provider COVID-19 Essential Guidance for Child Care programs.

Violations:
Standard #: 63.2(17)-1720.1-B-2
Description: Based on record review and interview, the center failed to obtain fingerprint-based criminal history check determination letters prior to the first day of employment .

Evidence:

1. Per the administrator staff 1's hire date was 8/13/18. The fingerprint-based criminal history check determination letters is dated 8/16/18.
2. Per the administrator staff 2's hire date for the exempt program was 8/26/20. The administrator stated staff 2 was not sent to obtain fingerprint background checks until 3/17/21.

Plan of Correction: In the future no staff will be hired until fingerprint-based criminal history check determination letters are obtained.
