Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for the use of the diapering surface. The risk assessment for a violation was provided.

Comments:
Thank you for your assistance during today's unannounced focused inspection conducted from 1:10 PM to 2:10 PM. There were twelve children, infancy to two years (38 points) in care with three caregivers. Today, I viewed the rest time, use of sleeping equipment, staffing, capacity and attendance. The children have been provided holiday art projects. It sounds like everyone will enjoy a shared Thanksgiving feast. Let me know if you need any assistance. 540/430-9259

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-690-D
Description: Based on observation of the child care area, and an interview with the provider, there were items on the diapering surface during the rest time and not for the use of a diaper change. Evidence: There were five child-size tee shirts with drying painted handprints covering the diaper changing mat. Underneath, there was a file folder and a child's change of clothing on the mat.

Plan of Correction: The provider immediately removed the items from the diapering mat. The provider will clean and sanitize the surface prior to use this afternoon. The provider will make sure all caregivers do not use the diapering surface as a counter for placement of art projects and other items. The provider will arrange to set-up a drying rack or extra table in advance of art projects. The provider will talk with the caregivers about the use of the diaper changing table only for the purpose of changing diapers.
