22VAC40-191 Background Checks for Child Welfare Agencies
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today, January 5, 2016. The violations from the previous inspection have been corrected. A violation notice was completed regarding the violations found during today's inspection. Upon arrival to family day home there were seven children in care, two more arrived later making a total of nine children totaling 25 points with two caregivers. A third caregiver is available when needed. The children played with the available toys, prepared for lunch which was USDA approved and then had naps. Children and household members files were also reviewed for compliance.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-750-A Description: Based on review of the records the provider failed to have written authorization to use topical ointments. Evidence: 1. The provider used petroleum jelly and powder on children during diapering and did not have written authorization to do so. Plan of Correction: The provider will ensure that the parents provide written authorization before putting any topical ointments on the children.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-690-E Description: Based on observation during the renewal inspection the provider failed to use the foot pedal operated trash can. Evidence: 1. Staff # 1 diapered four children. Of the four diapered two times staff # 1 used her hand to open the trash can, instead of using the foot pedal. Plan of Correction: The provider will ensure that when diapers are changed the lid is lifted by the foot pedal instead of the hand.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-40-D-1-c Description: Based on review of the household members records the provider failed to do repeat background checks. Evidence: 1. Staff # 3 has a criminal background check that expired 8/9/2015 and a child protective background check that expired 8/29/2015. Plan of Correction: The provider is working on the repeat background checks for staff #3 and will have them in the mail. The provider will ensure that repeat background checks are completed prior to the checks expiring.
