The children were observed watching television. No records were reviewed. Violations from the previous inspection were reviewed and one violation was repeated. Areas of non-compliance are identified on the violation notice. If you have any questions, please contact your inspector at (276) 608-3758.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Description: Based on observation, the family day home failed to maintain the home in a clean, safe, and operable condition. Evidence: 1. The inspector observed the following: There was dust and dirt on the floor in the entrance room which is primarily used for child care. There was a candy wrapper, a straw wrapper, a few small pebbles, and dirt spots beside the rug. The inspector observed clutter in the entrance room and in the kitchen. The table in the entrance room and the table in the kitchen had several items on top and underneath limiting space for children's activities. The front porch was cluttered with several items (toys, empty containers, a printer, etc.) making it difficult to enter or exit the house from the porch. This exit/entry is not typically used by the children in care, but could be used as an exit in an emergency situation. The inspector also observed two of the kitchen chairs stacked on top of the trash can in the kitchen. These chairs were unstable and a child could pull them down on himself.

Plan of Correction: The provider will sweep and mop the floors. The porch has been cleaned. The kitchen has also been cleaned. The chairs were on the trash can the day of the inspection because the provider was cleaning under the table. The chairs have been put back under the table.
