22VAC40-191 Background Checks for Child Welfare Agencies
- Technical Assistance:
Consultation provided on background checks and the need to do monthly escape drills.
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today with the provider, who was present with three children for at total of 7 points. One child was sleep while the other two were preparing for lunch, which consisted of polenta with an okra, fish and beef stew, broccoli, grapes and milk. No children had medication on site and there have been no injuries/accidents documented. Three household member's files were reviewed as well as five children's files. The provider has obtained 20 annual training hours for 2016. First Aid/CPR are through American Heart Association and is due to expire in 8/17. Arrival time: 12 noon Departure time: 1:50 pm
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-A Description: Based on an interview with the provider, it was determined that emergency evacuation procedures are not practiced monthly. Evidence: The provider reported that he has never conducted a monthly emergency evacuation drill. Plan of Correction: I will start doing monthly escape drills.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-40-D-1-c Description: Based on a review of household member's files and an interview with the provider, it was determined that repeat background checks have not been conducted every three years. Evidence: The sworn disclosure statement for Person A and B are dated 4/11/13. The criminal records check for Person A is dated 2/9/13 and dated 3/23/13 for Person B. Plan of Correction: I will obtain the new background checks.
Standard #: 22VAC40-191-40-D-5-a Description: Based on an interview with the provider and a review of records, it was determined that a household member who is over 14 years of age has not obtained a central registry finding within 30 days of the person becoming 14. Evidence: Person A is 16 years of age and there is no central registry finding on file. Plan of Correction: We did the wrong background check, we will make sure to do a central registry finding.
