Technical Assistance:
An exit meeting was completed by the licensing inspector with the caregiver to review the findings of today's inspection. A review of background check updates was discussed as well.

The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from approximately 11:30 am to 1:00 pm to determine the provider's compliance with licensing standards. During this inspection, there were 10 children present totaling 15 points being supervised by the provider with some assistance from a volunteer. The children were observed by the licensing inspector completing various activities to include playing on a variety of playground equipment, preparing to change clothes indoors after swimming, and engaging with peers and caregivers. The licensing inspector was informed by the provider that the children participated in swimming prior to this inspection. The designated area for childcare was deemed appropriate and equipped with age appropriate equipment and materials to meet the needs of the children. The outdoor playground area, pool area/equipment, and bathroom for the children were inspected today as well. The licensing inspector observed the provider preparing to transition into lunch time by setting the table with the children's lunch bags. The caregiver requests that the children in care bring their lunches from home during the summer. During the inspection, the licensing inspector interacted with the caregiver and the children when appropriate. The licensing inspector observed the required postings to include license, prior inspection summary, and menu which were deemed in compliance. The first aid kit and emergency supplies, posted emergency contacts, fire and shelter-in-place drills, and emergency preparedness plan were inspected. During this inspection, there were six children's records, and one caregiver's record reviewed. The violations from the previous inspection were checked for corrections. Medication is not being administered and transportation is not provided by the provider at this time.
If you have any questions about this inspection, please contact the licensing inspector, Tiffany Harris, at (804)-662-9772.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-660-E
Description: Based on interview and observation, the caregiver did not ensure an individual currently certified in basic water rescue, or lifeguarding was supervising the children participating in swimming or wading activities at all times.

Evidence: During this inspection, the provider informed the inspector that the children participated in swimming prior to the inspector's arrival and observations were completed by the inspector of children in care changing out of their swim wear. The provider did not have a certificate in basic water or lifeguarding for swimming activities to occur on the family day home premises.

Plan of Correction: Provider will contact instructor today to complete certification requirements. Provider will refrain from use of pool on the premises until certification is obtained.

A compliance history is in no way a rating for a facility.

The online compliance history includes only information after July 1, 2003. In addition, the online compliance history includes information regarding adverse actions that may be the subject of a pending appeal. An adverse action is not final until a provider has exhausted or waived all due process rights. For compliance history prior to July 1, 2003, or information regarding the status of pending adverse actions, please contact the Licensing Inspector listed in the facility's information. The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is not responsible for any errors in or omissions from the compliance history information.

Virginia Quality is a voluntary quality rating and improvement system for early care and education facilities serving children ages birth through pre-K. Eligible child care facilities must be fully licensed, licensed exempt and a VDSS subsidy vendor, or a voluntary registered day home and a VDSS subsidy vendor. Only programs enrolled in Virginia Quality will display a rating. Virginia Quality contact information for your region is available at the following link Regional Contacts.
