An initial inspection was conducted today from 10am through 11:30am. There were not any children in care. As this was an initial inspection all areas of standards could not be determined because there were not any children in care. However, all areas of standards were reviewed with the provider. The provider reports that children will not be transported and there will not be any medication administered at this time. There are three rooms and a bathroom set-a-side for child care. Locked doors and child safety gates prevent children from gaining access to the home's main living quarters. There are turtles in main living quarters. The provider understands that children in care may be allowed in the area where the turtles are housed. There is a large raised deck off the back of the home that will serve as the outside play space while the backyard is being landscaped with sod, seed and pavers. There are two cribs for infants and nine rest mats available in the home. The provider will submit digital pictures of corrections to the violations cited regarding peeling paint and 1 unsecured shelving unit.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A Description: Based on observation and interview the family day home failed to ensure that areas and furnishings inside and outside are maintained in safe condition. Evidence: 1 - There is peeling paint on the wall next to a crib to be used by an infant in care. a. The peeling paint flaked off when touched. b. The sides of the crib have open slats that would allow easy access to the peeling paint if an infant were in the crib. 2 - There is a 4 foot tall shelving unit that is not secured to the wall in the room where infants will sleep. a. The shelf poses a toppling hazard. 3 - The provider confirmed there is peeling paint on the walls and there is an unsecured shelf. Plan of Correction: Wall where peeling paint is located will be repainted The unsecured shelf will be secured to the wall
