- Technical Assistance:
All changes to the background check procedures were reviewed today. All future communication regarding background check procedures will only be sent via email. Due to the height of the backyard play structure, the slide and climbing wall shall remain off limits to children in care.
An unannounced full renewal inspection was conducted today. The provider and one assistant caregiver were caring for 4 children, totaling 9 points. The Inspector reviewed staff and provider records, children's records, emergency preparedness documents and supplies, the physical plant, and administrative documents today. The provider reported that no children's medications were on site today. The children were observed playing with toys, practicing color recognition skills, interacting with each caregiver, and preparing for lunch today. The children were served chicken sandwiches, fresh mixed salad, and milk for lunch today. This inspection was completed between approximately 9:30 am and 11:20 am. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A Description: Based on observations, it was determined that the backyard play equipment has not been maintained in operable condition. Evidence: One swing on the play structure has detached and is hanging loose. The provider has tied a rope to the play structure that is now hanging loose. At one time this rope held a tire swing, but the tire has been removed. Plan of Correction: The swing and the rope will be removed immediately today.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-480-D Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one crib has not been used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Evidence: The provider has stacked three crib mattresses inside the crib that is used by an 8 month old infant in care. The crib is designed to be used with only one mattress. Plan of Correction: The extra two mattresses were immediately removed during the inspection.
