Technical Assistance:
Discussed the recent communication regarding fingerprint based background checks for child day programs.

Comments:
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced monitoring inspection Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 12:40pm to 02:00pm. The children were observed playing with a variety of toys. Today, there were five children, totaling 16 points, present with one caregiver. Five children's records and two caregiver records were reviewed during the inspection. The violations from previous inspections were checked for corrections. There weren't any repeat violations found during today's inspection. Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-A
Description: Based on a review of documentation and caregiver interview on 11/29/2017, the provider did not ensure that the emergency evacuation procedures shall be practiced monthly. EVIDENCE: 1. The most recent evacuation drill documented was on 09/13/2017. 2. Caregiver #1 stated that this was the most recent drill conducted.

Plan of Correction: Will make sure to get drills done each month by the 15th of each month.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-120-B
Description: Based on a review of caregiver records on 11/29/2017, the provider did not ensure that assistants' records contained documentation that two or more references as to character and reputation as well as competency were checked before employment. EVIDENCE: The record of Caregiver #2, whose date of hire was 10/09/2017, did not contain documentation of two reference checks.

Plan of Correction: Will get staff to complete and return with in on week.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-170-A
Description: Based on a review of caregiver records on 11/29/2017, the provider did not ensure that each caregiver had a form documenting the absence of tuberculosis (tb) in a communicable form prior to coming into contact with children. EVIDENCE: The record of Caregiver #2, whose first day a the family day home was 10/09/2017, did not contain documentation of a negative tb test or screening.

Plan of Correction: Advise staff to get tb screening or test done as soon as possible, no later than 12/08/2017.
