A Subsidy Health and Safety inspection was conducted on May 27, 2018 to review supplemental health and safety requirements. The inspection was initiated at 1:30 pm and concluded at 4:00 pm. The provider participated in the inspection. Upon the inspectors arrival, five children were in care with two caregivers. Children were just getting up from nap. Children had bathroom breaks and hand washing upon getting up. Children then played in the house keeping area with plastic food, plates, pots and pans. Children made "pizza" and "block soup" for the inspector. One caregiver sat on the floor and participated in play with the kitchen set. Caregivers read books and interacted with children in a positive manner. Children played with wooden blocks and cars. Later three additional children arrived from the public school. New bookcases for toys and equipment have been installed. The caregiver is working on bins with pictures to identify the toy that goes in the bin. The family day home had the following information posted: The license, most recent inspection notice, emergency numbers, menu, emergency evacuation/shelter-in-place and lock down information, allergy list (no allergies) and the attendance sheet with sign in and out times. All areas used for child care were inspected along with a walk through of the home. The pool was locked and inaccessible to children in care. The outdoor play area was inspected. New equipment has been installed with re silent surfacing. The family day home was equipped with age and stage appropriate materials and supplies. The first aid kit and non-medical emergency supplies were inspected and found complete. The inspector interacted with the children in care and the provider. A licensing inspection was conducted on the same date as the SHSI supplemental inspection; the two inspections combined cover all subsidy health and safety requirements. Only subsidy requirements that are not covered in licensing standards are reviewed during this supplemental inspection. No violations of the supplemental subsidy health and safety requirements were found. Seven children's records, three caregiver records and two household member records were reviewed. Currently medications are not being administered. Caregivers have current MAT certification along with CPR and first aid. The most recent evacuation drill was documented on 05/11/2018. The two shelter-in-place drill were completed on 01/04/2018 and 04/13/2018. A lock down drill was conducted on 04/13/2018. The emergency preparedness plan is current. Today's snack consisted of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with milk, juice or water. Today a total of eight children were in care for a total of fifteen points. If you have questions regarding this inspection, please contact the inspector at 804-662-9758.
