22VAC40-191 Background Checks for Child Welfare Agencies
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted today from 10:10am-12:15pm. There were 6 children (19 points) supervised by 3 direct care staff. The home, 3 staff records, 4 children?s records, 1 household member?s records, evacuation drills, emergency supplies, and policies were inspected. There were no medications on site today. Children were observed playing with musical instruments, magnet letters, listening to a story, and playing outside. Diapering and handwashing procedures were also observed. There was an abundance of books, toys, and materials, which were found to be developmentally appropriate for the children in care at the time of inspection. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-960-E Description: Based on observation, 3 bottles were not labeled with the child's full name. Evidence: Child #2's (date of birth: 10/14/2017) and Child #5's (date of birth: 11/22/2017) bottles were labeled with the children's first and last initials, and the date. Their bottles did not contain each child's full first and last name. Plan of Correction: We will talk to parents tonight.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A Description: Based on observation, all areas and furnishings of the family day home were not maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition. Evidence: The infant cribs in the nap room had chipped paint along the top edges of the railings. Plan of Correction: We will either paint or purchase railing covers.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-A Description: Based on observation, 3 small electrical appliances were not unplugged, and were not being used by the caregiver or with children under close supervision. Evidence: In the kitchen of the family day home, a coffee maker, toaster over, and blender were plugged in and were not in use. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the time of inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-680-B Description: Based on observation, a caregiver did not ensure that children's hands were washed with liquid soap and warm running water after toileting or diapering. Evidence: Caregiver B (start date: 3/17/2014) did not wash Child #2's (date of birth: 10/14/2017) and Child # 4's (date of birth: 5/11/2016) hands after changing their diapers. Plan of Correction: We will wash children's hands after diapering from now on.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-690-D Description: Based on observation, the diapering surface was not nonabsorbent and washable. Evidence: The diaper changing pad had rips and tears in it, making it nonabsorbent. Plan of Correction: We will change it.
