An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today beginning at 1:30pm and concluded at 2:45pm. There were three children in care with the provider and one assistant. Children in care ranged in age from three months to 2.11 years old. The total points present equaled 10. Children were observed in provider and self-directed activities including play, story and nap. Emergency evacuation drills and required postings were reviewed. The first aid kit and required emergency items were reviewed. Two violations were identified related to infant care and appear on the violation notice. The violations were discussed with the provider during the process of the inspection.
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-520-C Description: Based on observation and interview the provider failed to ensure that the crib mattress fits snugly next to the crib so that no more than two fingers can be inserted between the mattress and the crib. Evidence: 1 - Child 1 was observed sleeping in a crib were more than two fingers could fit between the side of the crib and the mattress. 2 - The provider stated that the mattress in crib was not the mattress that came with the crib. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-530-F Description: Based on observation and interview the provider failed to ensure that no soft bedding of kind is used under or around infants including but not limited to, pillows or stuffed toys. Evidence: Child 1 was observed in his crib with a pillow and a stuffed animal. Plan of Correction: Corrected during the inspection.
