Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today beginning at 2pm and concluding at 4:30pm. There were 10 children and present for care, plus one resident child for a total of 11 children. Points present total 27 at the onset of the inspection. Children present ranged in age from 7months to four years old. There were three child care givers present at the beginning of the inspection. Children were observed during nap, snack, inside play, transitions, restroom routines and hand washing. Two violations were observed during the inspection regarding the terms of the license and emergency practice drills. These violations appear on the violation notice. The violations were reviewed with the provider during the exit interview on 1/28/18.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-B
Description: Based on review of documentation and interview the center failed to ensure that shelter-in-place procedures are practiced a minimum of twice per year. Evidence: 1 - There is no documentation of practiced shelter-in-place available for review for the 2018 calendar year. 2 - The provider stated that she had not documented

Plan of Correction: The provider will ensure that two shelter-in-place drills will be documented and available for review by December 2019.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-30-A
Description: Based on observation and interview the provider failed to ensure compliance with the terms of the current license issued by the department. Evidence: 1 - There were 10 children present for care at the onset of the inspection at 2:10pm. The licensed clearly states a maximum capacity of nine children. 2 - The provider confirmed that there were 10 children present for care and that she was, therefore, over the maximum capacity allowed in the licensed family day home.

Plan of Correction: The provider will not except children into care if there are already nine children present for care.
