Technical Assistance:
Technical assistance today included ideas for making the outdoor area accessible for children in care.

Comments:
A scheduled initial inspection was conducted today from 10:15 - 12:30 pm. There were no children in care yet. The child care area will be on a bright lower level with a wide variety of age appropriate activities and toys. The area was clean, spacious and inviting to children. If you have any questions, please contact me at brenda.kuhlman@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there were some areas not maintained in safe condition. Outdoors: The outdoor areas had accessible loose concrete blocks and bricks, and an air conditioning/heat pump unit accessible next to the entrance. There was also a stacked bench that was no secured, and standing water in a large plastic bucket . On the children's route to the entrance of the day care, there is an area where a lower side stair poses a hazard and there is a gap in the brick railing of the stair. The wooden railing had some splintering areas. along the posts. Indoors: At the lower part of the stair, one step had a sharp corner accessible.

Plan of Correction: We will put a gate at the stair where it drops down and paint the railing. We will take apart the bench and empty the bucket. We will get a protective corner for the stair.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-260-B
Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there was not a nonclimbable barrier as required at least four feet high located within 30 feet of a creek. Evidence: The outdoor area had a climbable metal fence with areas that were not firmly secured on the bottom.

Plan of Correction: For now, we will not use the playground. We will figure out a way to block off the playground.,

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-280
Description: Based on observation during today's inspection, there were some potentially hazardous substances not inaccessible to children. Evidence: There was laundry detergent in the laundry area near the entrance.

Plan of Correction: It will put away in the cabinet and locked.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-430-A
Description: Based on observation today, the stairway was accessible. Evidence: There was no gate/fence preventing access to the stairs.

Plan of Correction: We will put up a sliding gate.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-520-C
Description: Based on a observation during today's inspection, one crib did not meet the requirements as is. Evidence: One of the cribs did not have a sticker that showed the manufacturer's date of manufacturer, and there was no available paperwork today to confirm the date.

Plan of Correction: I will call the manufacturer for confirmation with the date.

Standard #: 63.2-1720.1-B-3
Description: Based on a review of records today, there were no fingerprint results accessible for one household member.

Plan of Correction: The appointment will be tomorrow at 5:40 pm.
