Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. The provider was caring for 5 children, totaling 15 points. Children's records, administrative records, emergency preparedness items, the physical plant, children's nutrition, health records, provider training, and caregiver:child interactions were inspected today. The children were observed playing musical instruments, singing songs, dancing to music, coloring pictures, reading books, and preparing to walk to the neighborhood park. The children were to be served pork chops, cooked carrots, mashed potatoes, and milk for lunch later today. This inspection was completed between approximately 9:45am and 10:45am. Thank you for meeting with me today. If you have any questions regarding this inspection please email me at sandra.dimperio@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-730-D
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one medication was not stored in a locked place to prevent access by children. Evidence: The Inspector observed one bottle of the provider's prescription medication on the counter in the kitchen, which is directly adjacent to the child care area. Although this medication was high enough to be out of the reach of children, it was not locked.

Plan of Correction: The medication was immediately moved during the inspection.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-240-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that the home was not fully maintained in a safe condition as required. Evidence: Upon arrival, the Inspector observed a lit candle burning in the child care area. Although this candle was out of the reach of the children, the fact that it was burning with children in care poses a safety hazard.

Plan of Correction: The candle was immediately extinguished during the inspection. I will not burn any candles while children are in care.
