Technical Assistance:
We discussed the requirements for reviews of emergency contact information. The risk assessment for a violation was provided. We talked about the requirements for caregiver records and updating emergency plans. Also, we talked about outside time, shade offering option, and use of sunscreen.

Comments:
Thank you for your assistance during today's unannounced renewal inspection conducted from 12:33 PM to 4:10 PM. Today, there were eleven children, ages infancy through five years (25 points), with three caregivers. I viewed daily routines, staffing, supervision, interactions with children, equipment, posted information, menu, nutrition, snack, five records for children, diapering procedures, emergency planning, emergency supplies and drill records, five records for caregivers/residents, caregiver training, indoor and outdoor areas. The children have been provided outside activities, weather permitting. This summer, the back fence was moved and the grass covered play area is smaller. We talked about an option for providing shade. A variety of age appropriate toys and materials have been available for the children. The caregivers were observed providing nurturing interactions with individual children.

Issuance of a renewed license will be recommended. Let me know if you have any questions. 540-430-9259

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-780-B
Description: Based on a review of five records for children, and an interview with caregivers, the provider did not arrange an annual review of a parent's emergency contact information to ensure the information is correct, and obtain the parent's signed acknowledgement. Evidence: The information for child 1 was signed by a parent at the time of initial registration for beginning care on July 30, 2018. The place on the form for the annual review signature was blank. The caregivers indicated that an annual review of the information was not conducted.

Plan of Correction: The provider immediately sent a text message to the parent of child 1 and requested that she take time to review the information during today's pick-up time. A caregiver will make sure the parent signs the acknowledgement of the annual review this date. The provider will make sure the need for annual reviews are tracked and arranged by every twelve months.
