Technical Assistance:

Discussed proper storage of empty infant bottles and proper methods to warm the empty bottles prior to filling them with infant formula.

Comments:

An unannounced full renewal inspection was conducted today. The provider and one assistant caregiver were caring for 5 children, totaling 19 points. Children's records, background checks, caregiver/household member records, caregiver training, health records, the physical plant, administrative records, emergency preparedness items, children's nutrition, and caregiver:child interactions were observed and inspected today. The children were observed playing with toys and interacting with both caregivers. The children were to be served chicken, rice, mixed vegetables, peaches, and milk for lunch later today. This inspection was completed between approximately 9:45am and 11:00am. Thank you for meeting with me today. Standard #:	22VAC40-111-240-A
Description:	Based on observations, it was determined that one area of the home has not been maintained in a safe condition as required. Evidence: There is a loose cord stretched across the stairs leading to the upper level of the home. The provider carries the children up these stairs to take them upstairs when they nap. This loose cord is a tripping hazard.
Plan of Correction:	The cord will be secured so it is not loose.
Standard #:	22VAC40-111-560-A
Description:	Based on observations and interviews, it was determined that the provider's baby monitor was not operable at the start of this inspection. Evidence: Upon arrival, there were two infants asleep in the upper level of the home while the provider and assistant caregiver were on different levels of the home. When the Inspector asked the provider to show her the monitor used to supervise the sleeping infants, the monitor screen was not operable. The provider uses an infant monitor that is connected to her cell phone. The image and sounds from the room where the infants were sleeping could not be viewed on her cell phone.
Plan of Correction:	I fixed the monitor connection immediately during the inspection. If the monitor is not working, we always check the sleeping babies at least every 15 minutes.
