22VAC40-191 Background Checks for Child Welfare Agencies

Technical Assistance:
The license cannot be processed for renewal until the provider receives and forwards the results of one background check search that has not yet been completed.

It is highly recommended that the children's toys be moved away from the fencing surrounding the backyard air conditioning unit. Although not a hazard at this time, their current placement could potentially become a safety hazard.

Comments:
An unannounced full renewal inspection was conducted today. The provider and two assistant caregivers were caring for 10 children, totaling 31 points. Children's records, children's nutrition, caregiver/adult records, caregiver training, health records, the physical plant, emergency preparedness items, and background checks were inspected today.
The provider reported that no children's medications were on site today.

The children were observed playing outside, singing songs, and interacting with each caregiver. Pleasant and engaging interactions were observed throughout this inspection.
The children were to be served fish sticks, broccoli, sliced grapes, and milk for lunch today.

This inspection was completed between approximately 10:00am and 11:50am. Thank you for meeting with me today. If you have any questions regarding this inspection please email me at sandra.dimperio@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-750-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that two topical ointment products were not labeled as required.
Evidence:
Two containers of the children's diaper ointment products were not labeled with each child's name.

Plan of Correction: I will label them today during nap.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-250-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one window blind cord was potentially within the children's reach.
Evidence:
In the infant room, the cribs are placed along the front wall where there are two windows. One of the window blind cords was hanging low, next to one of the cribs. This cord could be reached by a child when the child is in the crib.

Plan of Correction: I always move the cribs away from the wall during nap time. I will also tie the cord up higher so that it is completely out of reach next to the crib.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-540-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one child was not securely fastened when sitting in his infant seat.
Evidence:
The Inspector observed one 8 month old infant seated in an infant seat on the floor. The safety strap was not buckled for this child.

Plan of Correction: The safety strap was immediately buckled during the inspection.
