Discussion of current zoning process to potential increase capacity from 9 to 12 children. Walk-through of bottom and main level was conducted and evaluated space for potential increase in the licensed capacity.

An unannounced modification inspection was completed on October 3, 2019, from 11:25 am to 1:45 pm. The physical plant,1 staff record, 1 child's record, 1 caregiver training were reviewed. Provider received approval from Arlington County Zoning Division for a maximum capacity of 12 children. Inspector evaluated space designated for use of operation, an increase in licensed capacity from 9 children to 12 will be reviewed. There were 9 children, totaling 27 points, under the supervision of 3 caregivers. During the inspection, children were observed in free play inside and outside. The interactions between the children and caregivers were seen to be positive and constructive in nature. Areas of noncompliance are identified on the violation notice. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-430-B Description: Based on observation, accordion expansion gates were used as a protective barrier at stair openings.
Evidence:
1.The bottom of the steps to the outdoor play area were blocked with an accordion gate.
2. The gate was not mounted and had diamond shaped openings between the slats which can result in a pinching hazard.
3. Children under two years of age were in care during the inspection and were in the outdoor play area.Plan of Correction: I will replace the gate with the proper gate. I will begin to put it in now (1:43 pm).
