Technical Assistance:
It is highly recommended that the provider contact the Infant Toddler Training Network for further child care training and programming ideas

The Inspector provided suggestions for more engaging programming, smoother transitions, and improved individualized care.

Comments:
An unannounced full renewal inspection was conducted today. The provider was caring for 3 children, totaling 11 points. Children's records, emergency preparedness items, the physical plant, child care programming, provider:child interactions, background checks, caregiver records, administrative records, and children's nutrition items were inspected today.

The children were observed playing with toys, singing songs, assembling puzzles, and eating lunch. The children were served rive with beef and mixed vegetables, sliced apples, and milk for lunch today.

This inspection was completed between approximately 10:15am and 12:30pm. Thank you for meeting with me today. If you have any questions regarding this inspection please email me at sandra.dimperio@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-830-C
Description: Based on a review of emergency preparedness items, it was determined that the provider has not maintained documentation of emergency evacuation drills.
Evidence:
The provider did not document a practiced evacuation drill during the months of June, July, August, September, and October 2019.

Plan of Correction: I could not find the model form on the DSS website. I've asked my Inspector to send me the form. I'll start using the form and recording each fire drill.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-900-B
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that one child was allowed to drink while walking.
Evidence:
The Inspector observed a 12 month old child walking around while drinking from his sippy cup.

Plan of Correction: I will make sure all children sit down to eat and drink.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-910-C
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that children were allowed to share a common drinking cup.
Evidence:
The Inspector observed the provider hand a sippy cup to child A. Moments later, another child took that cup from child A and began drinking from it. When the provider noticed this occurrence, she took the cup, very briefly ran the lid under water, then handed it back to child A. In handing it back to child A, the provider allowed these two children to share a common drinking cup.

Plan of Correction: I will make sure the children always have an individual cup whenever they drink.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-60-B
Description: Based on a review of children's records, it was determined that two records do not contain all required information.
Evidence:
1 - Child record A does not include: the information for a second emergency contact person; parental signed permission for the child to walk to the neighborhood playground (the provider walks children to the playground daily)
2 - Child record C does not include the parent's medical insurance policy number.

Plan of Correction: I will ask the parents for the information.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-70-A
Description: Based on a review of administrative records, it was determined that two parents have not been given all required written information from the provider.
Evidence:
1 - The parent of child A has not been given in writing the provider's provisions of the emergency plan.
2 - The parent of child C has not been given in writing: the provider's child care policies on the "information for parents" form; the provider's provisions of the emergency plan; the provider's liability insurance information.

Plan of Correction: I will complete all forms and ask each parent to sign them.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-530-A
Description: Based on provider interviews, it was determined that one child has not been given the required nap linens consisting of a top and bottom cover.
Evidence:
The provider reported that one 18 month old child naps on a sleep mat. This mat is covered with a sheet, but the provider does not give the child a blank to use during nap.

Plan of Correction: She does not like a blanket. But I'll start giving her one at nap each day.
