Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today. The provider and one assistant caregiver were caring for 7 children, totaling 19 points. Children's records, caregiver training, administrative documents, emergency preparedness items, children's nutrition, the physical plant, and caregiver:child interactions were inspected today. The provider reported that no children's medications were on site today.

The children were observed playing with toys, coloring pictures, assembling puzzles, and interacting with each caregiver.
The children were to be served chicken/vegetable noodle soup, bananas, and milk for lunch today.

This inspection was completed between approximately 9:45am and 11:30am. Thank you for meeting with me today. If you have any questions regarding this inspection please email me at sandra.dimperio@dss.virginia.gov

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-50-A
Description: Based on a review of administrative documents, it was determined that the provider has not kept a written record of children in attendance each day.
Evidence:
Upon arrival, there were 7 children in care. The provider had not completed any written record of attendance for today.

Plan of Correction: I will remember to do the attendance every morning.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-70-A
Description: Based on a review of administrative records, it was determined that the provider has not provided each parent with all required written information prior to each child's first day of attendance.
Evidence:
Child C entered care on 10/12/19. The provider has not given the parent the written information advising them of the provisions of the emergency plan.

Plan of Correction: I will ask the parent to sign the form today.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that the provider did not keep all small electrical appliances unplugged when not being used by a caregiver.
Evidence:
The kitchen area is open and directly adjacent to the child care area, with open access by the children. A toaster oven was plugged in on the counter of the kitchen area.

Plan of Correction: I will keep the toaster oven unplugged when we aren't using it.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-570-A
Description: Based on observations, it was determined that the provider did not ensure each caregiver did not exceed caring for a maximum of 16 points of children.
Evidence:
Upon arrival the Inspector observed a total of 19 points of children in care. These children were in care with only the assistant caregiver. Therefore, the assistant caregiver was caring for more than the allowable 16 points of children.

Plan of Correction: I had to leave the home briefly to take something to my child at the local elementary school. I was gone for only 5 minutes. I will make sure each caregiver never cares for more than 16 points of children.
