Comments:
An unannounced Renewal Inspection was conducted on February 4, 2020 from approximately 10:30 am until 12:25 pm. Upon entrance there were 6 children, totaling 18 points and 2 caregivers. The record review sample consisted of 5 children's records, 1 provider record, 1 caregiver record and 1 household member records. Children were observed freely playing outside and eating lunch. The results of the inspection were reviewed and verified with the provider during the exit interview. Areas of noncompliance are noted on the violation notice. If you have any questions, contact your licensing inspector at (757) 404-0568.

Violations:
Standard #: 22VAC40-111-730-D
Description: Based on observation and provider interviews, the provider did not ensure that medication, except for those prescriptions designated otherwise by a written physician's order, including refrigerated medication and medications for caregivers and household members, shall be kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children.

Evidence: In an unlocked cabinet in the room where there were 6 children in care, there was a first aid kit containing 4 pain reliever medications. The medication was not stored in a locked manner.

Plan of Correction: The packets of pain reliever was taken out of first aid kit while the inspector was doing observation.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-320-G
Description: Base on observation and provider interviews, the provider did not ensure the wood burning stoves and fireplaces and associated chimneys shall be inspected annually by a knowledgeable inspector to verify that the devices are properly installed, maintained, and cleaned as needed. Documentation of the inspection and cleaning shall be maintained by the provider.

Evidence: The provider has a wood burning fireplace and there is not documentation of annual fireplace inspection.

Plan of Correction: The fire place was inspected. A copy of the inspection is in my records.
