Technical Assistance:
Discussed Medication Administration with the Assistant and required paperwork that will be expiring soon.

Comments:
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted today from 9:35am to 12:00pm with the Assistant. There were three children in care, ranging from three to five years of age, for a total of six points. Children were observed listening to a story, using the restroom and washing hands, eating morning snack, reading stories by Dr. Seuss and doing a related art project, and having free play. Four children?s records, two staff records, and two household members? records were reviewed and were in compliance. The provider and assistant have current certification in CPR and First Aid. Four medications and authorization forms were reviewed and the provider and assistant have current certification in Medication Administration Training (MAT). Morning snack today was peaches and milk.The emergency drill log, attendance, and menu were also reviewed and were in compliance. The most recent evacuation drill was documented 2/28/20 and the most recent shelter-in-place drill was documented 1/21/20. Standard #: 22VAC40-111-700-C
Description: Based on review of four medications for one child, parents were not notified that medications with expired authorizations needed to be picked up within 14 days of expiring or the parent must renew the authorization. Evidence: The Licensing Inspector (LI) observed an emergency inhaler, Benadryl, an Epi-Pen, and Diazepan on site for Child A, all with authorization dated 9/11/18, which expired on 9/11/19.

Plan of Correction: We will let the parents know as soon as possible and obtain new authorization.

Standard #: 22VAC40-111-710
Description: Based on review of four medications for one child, the family day home did not ensure that prescription medication was maintained in the original, labeled container. Evidence: The Licensing Inspector (LI) observed an emergency medication on site for Child A that was not in the original container from the pharmacy with the prescription label.

Plan of Correction: We will ask the parents for this.
