22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)

An unannounced inspection for license renewal was conducted today. Ratios for all four groups were found in compliance. The children were singing songs, having story time, eating lunch and resting. One group was enjoying a pizza party for their classmate's last day. The center has been refurbished and newly painted. New furniture, equipment and materials have been added. Medication procedures were reviewed and found in order. Staff with current MAT, first aid and CPR training were on site. Staff and children's records were also reviewed today. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-40-D
Description: Based on observation, the license was not posted in a place conspicuous to the public. Findings: At the time of the inspection, the inspector observed that the license was posted in the upstairs office behind the door.

Plan of Correction: Display of document will be relocated.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-90--A
Description: Based on record review, the licensee did not have a written agreement between the center and parent of each child in care. Findings: At the time of the inspection, the inspector found that the new licensee did not have written, signed agreements between the parents and the new owner of the center. These written authorizations include, authorization for emergency medical care, notification of a ill child and agreement by the parent to pick up the child as soon as possible, and the parent agreeing to inform the center within 24 hours if any member of the household has a reportable communicable disease.

Plan of Correction: Families needing updated agreements have been informed and provided appropriate documents. The center is awaiting return.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-500-A
Description: Based on observation, staff failed to wash their hands after changing a child's diaper. Findings: At the time of the inspection, the inspector observed a staff person in the Lil Montessori room change children's diapers without washing her hands between each diaper change.

Plan of Correction: Staff have been reminded of correct procedure. Staff have been provided a refresher course.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-520-D
Description: Based on observation, insect repellent was not kept in an area inaccessible to children. Findings: At the time of the inspection, the inspector observed containers of insect repellent sitting on the top shelf of each child's cubbie in the Montessori II room. This shelf is accessible to the children.

Plan of Correction: At the time of the inspection, the containers of insect repellent were moved to an area inaccessible to children.

Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F
Description: Based on observation, the menu listing food to be served for snack during the current one week period, was not posted. Findings: At the time of the inspection, the inspector observed a posted list of snacks that could be served on any one day. A current, dated snack menu for the week , listing the snack to be served each day was not posted.

Plan of Correction: Revised snack menu will be posted.
