Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. An unannounced, on-site monitoring inspection was conducted on 10/23/24 from 8:50 am to 9:40 am. The inspector reviewed compliance in the areas listed above.There were 5 children present and 1 caregiver; the point total was 13. The inspector reviewed 4 children?s records, 1 caregiver, and 1 household member's record on-site. This inspection included document review, tour of the family day home, interviews, and observations.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-100-A Description: The provider shall obtain documentation of a physical examination by or under the direction of a physician prior to a child's attendance or within 30 days after the first day of attendance.
Child # 1 has been in attendance for over two months. Child # 2 has been in attendance for over one month. Documentation of a physical exam has not been obtained for the children to this date.Plan of Correction: Missing records will be obtained.
Standard #: 8VAC20-800-110-B Description: Children's immunization records shall be signed by a licensed physician, the physician's designee, or an official of a local health department.

Standard #: 8VAC20-800-690-E Description: Soiled disposable diapers and wipes shall be disposed of in a leak-proof or plastic-lined storage system that is either foot operated or used in such a way that neither the caregiver's hand nor the soiled diaper or wipe touches the exterior surface of the storage system during disposal.
After changing a diaper, the provider placed the soiled diaper on a packet of wipes sitting next to the diaper changing table.Plan of Correction: The diaper pail will be moved closer to the diaper changing table. Diapers will be disposed off in the diaper pail.
