Effective January 1, 2025, the VDOE will begin determining compliance with ? 22.1-289.057 of the Code of Virginia, which is legislation passed by the General Assembly in 2020. The law requires all licensed child day programs, religious exempt child day centers that serve preschool age children, and certified preschools to test potable drinking water. The law requires that programs submit their plans and test results to the Virginia Department of Health Office of Drinking Water (VDH ODW) and the Superintendent. If the results of the testing indicate elevated lead levels, the program shall remediate, retest, and resubmit results to VDH ODW and the Superintendent. There is an additional alternative bottled water option that comes with additional requirements. A subsidy health and safety inspection (SHSI) was conducted in conjunction with the renewal inspection. Subsidy standards that are not covered in family day home standards were reviewed during this SHSI.
Information gathered during the inspection determined non-compliance with applicable standards or law, and violations are documented on the violation notice issued to the program.

Standard #: 8VAC20-790-250-D-1 Description: REPEAT VIOLATION
All caregivers shall have within 90 days of employment a current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) appropriate to the ages of children in care. The training shall include an in-person competency demonstration. Caregiver #2?s CPR training had been overdue for renewal for more than four months.Plan of Correction: Caregiver #2 is enrolled in the earliest first aid and CPR training class they could find. The first aid and CPR training will be updated by the end of January 2025.

The records for Caregiver #1, Caregiver #2, and Caregiver #3 did not include documentation showing completion of the department?s annual health and safety update course. All caregivers have been employed at the family day home for over 13 months.
Plan of Correction: All caregivers will have the annual health and safety training completed by the end of January 2025.
