The staff were able to answer the Inspectors questions about special care and program. The classes were all in ratio. Hand washing, nutrition, and special care was also observed. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, the staff in the Firefly's class have not kept cleaning spray in a locked place when not using it. Evidence: 1. A spray bottle labeled Bleach and water observed on shelf with diapers. 2. Inspector also observed a container of sunscreen in an unlocked cabinet below the changing table. Plan of Correction: The staff used another locking method to keep the spray and sunscreen form children's access.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-490-C Description: Based on staff interviews, the center failed to inform parents within 24 hours or the next business day when the children at the center have been exposed to a communicable disease listed in the the Departments of Health's current communicable disease chart. Evidence: 1. Staff stated that in early December, a staff member in the school building was confirmed with a case of pertussis. This staff member was in contact with children enrolled in the before and after program which is included in the License. 2. Parents were not notified that children were exposed to the illness and this illness is listed on Virginia Health Department's Reportable Disease List. Plan of Correction: I was on vacation during the incident and had previously been communicating with Health Department about illnesses. I will contact parents to inform them of this and I will meet with all administrators to discuss Licensing Standards and importance of keeping programs in compliance.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the containers of food and drink contents brought from home are not all labeled with child's first name and last name and/or dated. Evidence: 1. Inspector talked with staff in older Infant room and observed a clear bag containing two bottles that were not labeled and dated. Staff said it is just in bottles because parent measures the whole milk in in and bring s that and other items for feeding each day. Plan of Correction: We will remind families to label and date food contents.
