Discussed room arrangement in Infant Classrooms.
Unannounced inspection was conducted to investigate a complaint related to the Infant Rooms . Based on staff interviews and classroom observation, it was determined that the complaint was valid. A plan of correction was developed and will be monitored for ongoing compliance. The complaint was related to combining younger and older infants into one classroom rather than separating them by ages.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-370 Complaint related: Yes Description: Based on interviews with staff and classroom observation, it was determined that staff failed to separate younger, non mobile infants from the older mobile infants. This resulted in older infants crawling or walking to the infants that are on the floor or in infant seats. Evidence: On at least one occasion an older mobile infant hit an younger infant on the head with a toy. The infant was not hurt but was upset. On another occasion, an older infant moved the mat where there was a young infant laying. Plan of Correction: Management staff stated that effective 2/18/2016, Infant A and Infant B classrooms will be separated from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.. In addition the classrooms will be separated before or after those times if there are more than 4 infants in care. If the ages of infants are mixed and there is only one staff person needed, they will call management for assistance if they are changing diapers or feeding or any other activity where they cannot redirect activity easily.
