VA Department of Social Services has a new web site for providers and parents that has the most current and updated information on licensing. The web site is childcareva.com. Please refer to it in the next several months as information on the national background criminal record check will be updated. This new requirement will be effective as of July 2017 for fingerprinting and submitting Criminal Record Checks for all staff.
An unannounced monitoring visit was conducted today. All classrooms were present and in ratio with direct care staff. Observed children preparing for a large school photo, Montessori centers and classroom activities, snack transition and hand washing. Rooms are well equipped and support the Montessori curriculum with appropriate materials and equipment. Large outside play area was in use. The center is preparing for accreditation woth AMS and VIS in the coming year. Areas of non-compliance are identified in this report. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation, hazardous substances were accessible in three classrooms. Evidence: 1. Alcohol wipes that were kept in a first aid box were within reach of children in Room 2's bathroom. 2. A large bottle of Lavender soap that states "keep out of reach of children" was in the sink cabinet in Room 3 which was not locked as well as a large bottle of hand soap in Room 4 was in the sink cabinet and was not locked.
