22VAC40-191 Background Checks (22VAC40-191)
An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted from 9:30am-11:30am. Upon arrival there were 63 children in care with 11 staff present. A sample of 2 staff and 4 children's records were reviewed, in addtition to 2 medications. USDA requirements and portion sizes was reviewed and discussed. Children were observed playing in learning centers and outside conducting an experiment. Infants were observed sleeping in cribs, playing on the floor and being fed.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-280-B Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure hazardous substances were kept in a locked place using a safe locking method that prevents access by children. Evidence: The storage closet in the preschool room was unlocked. It contained a bottle of glass cleaner, peroxide cleaner and multi surface cleaner. Plan of Correction: All chemicals were locked during the visit. Staff will all be retrained on proper chemical storage on or before 6/5/16. Management will observe daily for compliance.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-F Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure all requirements were met when providing meals or snacks. Evidence: The menu was not posted in a conspicuous area of the center where parents have access to it. The menu was posted on the inside of the kitchen door that was closed at the time of inspection. Plan of Correction: Management moved menu the day of the visit. DM will review for compliance at all visits.
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-560-G Description: Based on observation the center failed to ensure all requirements were met when food is brought from home. Evidence: In the infant room there was an opened container of dry infant formula and 3 opened containers of puff snacks that were not labeled with a date. Plan of Correction: Open food containers were labeled the day of the visit. Staff will all be retrained on or before 6/5/16 on proper food labeling. Center management and the Safety Captain will monitor daily for compliance.
