The License covers early childhood, Before and After School care as well as Summer Camp program. Renewal applications should contain the names of all current staff which includes teachers, aides, van drivers, cooks and on site administrative staff.
An unannounced renewal inspection was conducted. The Inspector reviewed supervision, ratios, special care, staff qualifications, staff and children's records. The Inspector also observed transition of children, departures, arrivals, and had discussion with staff about ratios, supervision, and special services. Please call with questions 703-479-4679
Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on record review of staff currently employed in the summer camp program, the center has not obtained written information to demonstrate that each individual assigned in a lead qualified position does posses the education, orientation training, staff development, certification, and experience required by the job position. Evidence: 1. There were two staff listed as Lead Counselors but files did not have documentation of high school diploma and in one case the file did not also include verification of 6 months programmatic experience. 2. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-340-A Description: Based on observation and staff interviews, the program has failed to ensure care and safety of the children as evident by a staff member left a group of 8 children in the gym without a staff member. Evidence: At 920, the Inspector went in the gym and saw three groups of children: 1 group throwing and shooting basketballs, another group sitting on the ground eating floor, and another group sitting at the back end of gym. 2. There were only two staff present in the gym and some staff stated those children were not with her group but she did not know where the staff member went. This staff member and another staff member identified the missing staff member but also stated those children were not hers to watch. 3. Another staff arrived 10 minutes later to watch those 8 children, and this staff member stated she did not start until 930 and she had "no idea" where the other staff person was. The Inspector entered the gym and observed one staff member supervising 23 children by herself in the gym while another staff member was supervising 19 children by himself. 2.
