Sex Offender Registry (HB 920) House Bill 920 changes the definition of ?offense? in ? 63.2-1719 in the Code of Virginia to include convictions that result in the requirement to register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry or any similar registry in any other state. This legislation prohibits sex offenders from being employed by or operating a child welfare agency. It is recommended but not required that providers search the Virginia Sex Offender Registry to determine if an individual is listed on this registry, and print out the results of the search. The list of crimes that convictions of which require registration in the Sex Offender Registry is found at: http://www.dss.virginia.gov/files/division/licensing/fdh/intro_page/background_investigations/guidance_procedures/convictions.pdf. Fingerprint Checks (HB 1570, SB1168, budget bill) Fingerprint checks will be required next year. All employees, volunteers, applicants, providers, and house hold members in licensed, registered, and regulated child care programs must undergo a fingerprint background check by July 1, 2017. (HB1570 and SB1169 2015, budget bill) All individuals required to have a background check must submit to a fingerprint check. Further details about this process will be provided next year.
The licensing inspector conducted an unannounced renewal inspection Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 10:45am to 12:20pm . The children were observed playing with toys, singing songs, and practicing handwriting skills. The infants were observed sleeping and playing in an exersaucer. A menu was posted,and today lunch was to consist of peanut butter and jelly on wheat bread, carrots, cuumbers, and milk. Interviews were held with staff throughout the inspection. Additionally, when appropriate the inspector interacted with children in each classroom. All classrooms and the playground were inspected today. Three children?s records and two employee records were reviewed during this inspection. The center's first aid kit and emergency supplies were inspected. Last emergency drill:7/29/2016 Last shelter-in-place drill: 3/28/2016 Last fire inspection: 1/11/2016 Last health inspection: 6/8/2016 Total enrollment: 17 Today, the following child to staff ratios were observed: Infants ?4:1 Toddlers ?5:1 Preschool ( two-four years old) ?5:1 The violations from the previous inspections were checked for corrections. Standard #: 22VAC40-185-70-A Description: Based on a review of staff records on 08/18/2016, the center did not ensure that one of two records reviewed contained documentation of any health problems. EVIDENCE: The record of Staff #2 did not contain documentation that they did not have any health problems that would interfere with their job. Each staff record shall contain information, to be kept at the center, about any health problems which may interfere with fulfilling the job responsibilities. Plan of Correction: Corrected on site, staff signed statement during inspection. Will add statement to application or have a separate form for staff to complete.
